> Please state your length of time working at Interocean.
I have been part of the Interocean team for five months, joining the company in September 2024.
> What made you choose Accountancy as a career?
I have always loved working with numbers and problem-solving, which naturally led me towards accountancy. Throughout school, I found great satisfaction in analysing numerical data and tackling calculations. The strong career progression opportunities in this field also appealed to me, making it the perfect fit.
> What inspired you to join the Interocean team?
The opportunity to work alongside Interocean’s experienced CFO was a key factor in my decision. I knew this would be an invaluable learning experience and a great opportunity for my professional growth.
Interocean’s commitment to employee development also stood out to me. The company has actively supported my professional qualifications, which have not only advanced my career but also strengthened my ability to contribute to the business.
> Can you tell us about your role at Interocean and outline some of your typical day to day tasks?
As part of the Finance team, my role focuses on producing and analysing financial data to support business decision making. I review financial performance across different departments, ensuring leadership has accurate and reliable figures to guide their strategies.
Some of my day-to-day tasks include:
- Updating cash flow sheets.
- Creating and posting journal entries in line with finances.
- Preparing financial reports for month-end analysis.
- Analysing financial data, such as business expenses and revenue trends.
- Assisting other members of the Finance team and supporting colleagues across the business when needed.
> How has Interocean supported your transition and professional growth as a recent Accounts Graduate?
Interocean has been incredibly supportive in my transition from university to a professional role. The team have encouraged my development by supporting me through my professional qualifications, ensuring I continue to grow in my career.
The team are always showing me new approaches to different challenges and tasks, expanding my knowledge across different areas of finance. I also benefit from mentorship and guidance from the CFO, as well as support from my colleagues, making learning an ongoing part of my role.
> What do you enjoy most about working at Interocean?
One of the things I enjoy most is how welcoming and friendly the team are. There is always a great atmosphere in the office, making it an enjoyable and supportive place to work. I also appreciate how accessible and approachable senior management is. No matter what role you are in, everyone works closely together, creating a strong sense of teamwork and shared purpose.
> What advice would you give to other graduates starting their careers?
- Make the most of your university studies: A strong foundation of knowledge will make your transition into the workplace much smoother.
- Be open to learning: Take on advice from those with more experience and apply it to your work.
- Set personal goals: Ask yourself – Where do I want to be in three years? How can I contribute to the business? What skills can I improve to add more value?
- Work hard and stay proactive: Seeking out opportunities to learn and grow will set you apart and help accelerate your career.
> Tell us a bit about life outside of Interocean.
Outside of work, I enjoy watching football and supporting my team on the weekends. I also play football with friends and compete in a local team. When I’m not on the pitch, I like spending time socialising, whether that’s out doing activities, going out for food, or catching up with friends over a few drinks.
